Harlem Children’s Zone Joins ScholarChip’s Growing Client Roster

NEW YORK, N.Y.., December 20, 2016 —ScholarChip®, the largest provider of smart ID cards for K-12 schools, announces that its newest client, Harlem Children’s Zone®, has purchased ScholarChip’s smart ID Card system, ID Manager, for Building Attendance and Large Group Attendance services for its HCZ® Promise Academy I and II Middle and High Schools.

The HCZ Promise Academy Charter Schools offer students an unprecedented array of services, all brought to bear toward a single goal: to guarantee that students are equipped to graduate from college. The program has achieved unprecedented success, helping thousands of children and families and disrupting the cycle of generational poverty in Central Harlem through its innovative and effective programs; ScholarChip’s services will support these goals. The Promise Academy schools are free to attend and have approximately 2,000 children enrolled.

Prior to adding ScholarChip’s Smart ID Card system, an aide would sit at each entrance to check students in, then collate the information and manually enter the data; they were spending a large part of their day on data collection and entry. The new automated system will dramatically reduce the time required to take building attendance, allowing them to focus on other initiatives like early intervention and home visits.

These new services start with ScholarChip’s ID Manager, which integrates with HCZ’s student information system and prints customized smart ID cards. Cards will be issued to students, who will tap in at a kiosk located at each school entrance. These kiosks will be used for building attendance as well as large group attendance activities like dances or sports events.

Smart ID card-based automation allows administrators to keep schools more secure; they can monitor school attendance in real time, which can be vital in the case of emergency. These real-time reports support data-driven operation decisions, which increase efficiency and security.
